Consultation & Follow-up Visits

Sleep evaluation by the attending physician starts with a detailed discussion of your sleep habits and problems.  Some problems include daytime symptoms such as fatigue, decreased memory, failing alertness and general sleepiness.  We also need your family, medical and psychiatric history since sleep quality is closely interrelated with these factors in your life.  Physical factors affect sleep, thus a sleep-related exam is needed as well.

Much management of sleep disorders is simply counseling and cognitive-behavior modification.  Sleep studies are planned, if indicated, and must be tailored to the individual situation.

Follow-up visits are recommended to make sure that progress is made and to address issues that arise along the way.  Sleep treatment is rarely perfect and requires management through ongoing attention as time passes and changes develop.
